The tri-fighter has a cockpit which swivels open. It's more sturdy than in the tri-fighter set from 2005. The 2010 version is much bigger and much longer than the 2005 version. The 2010 droid tri-fighter also comes with 2 big missiles and lots of lasers.
All in all, this set is a great set and I would HIGHLY recommend you to get this. You can find this set on eBay and BrickLink for sure.
